Tub/toilet drain issues?
I live California in a house that was built in 1905. The plumbing had only given me issues when the roots of the tree out front tangle up the pipe. I had the line cleaned two months ago. Lately I noticed that the bathtub/shower drain gives me problems when I block the drain to use the bath tub. The bath doesnt drain and then bubbles start coming up through the toilet. I use some Japanese bath salts that turn the color of the water to what ever color and notice that bath water is coming in with the bubbles. I would flush the toilet and it would back up and then about three minutes later, all the water gets sucked out of the toilet and the tub begins draining again. Is there an air bubble that forms? How to fix it? I also have a fear of toilets, especially when they back up! So I am really freaked out!
do you have a septic system or drainage into city sewers?if its a septic, you need enzymes to be added to the problem areas.get in touch with this old house television show, they will return your emails with free advice.
my parents had this problem in or bathroom growing up – it was the fact that the leach-field was full. your house has one if not on public water; which is most likely the case seeing as it was built in 1905. i would consult a plumber; be sure to ask for a price for a consult when you call so you aren’t blindsided with the problem still persisting. if it is the leach-field, i won’t lie it’s a $10,000 job!

If you are on a septic system which I suspect you are I would start with the simple less expensive first and have the septic tank pumped out first. The person who pumps the tank will be able to tell you when they pump if this is the problem and if not will be able to give you advice to what the problem might be. If your not on a septic system then I suspect that the line going to the main from your house is plugging up in this case you will need a plumber to run a plumbers snake out to the main.
