Clogged Up Drainage – A Stellar Concern!.
Clogged Up Drainage – A Stellar Concern!.
Unfortunately, most of us have experienced being in the shower with the water level rising rapidly. A blocked drain pipe, quite disgusting and a sign of problems to come!. And it’s not confined to the bath and shower, you could be brushing your teeth getting ready for bed only to be confronted with the sink filling up rapidly. Clearing obstructed drainage is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drains are). However, most household bathrooms will experience a choked drain pipe at some time and one time or another. The best way to manage choked bathroom drainage is to learn how to unclog them.
First, let’s look at why drains become stopped and what are the main causes of a blockage.
Hair, dust and other particles getting stuck in the space between the drain pipe and the pipes are the main cause. The problem is further exacerbated when household products such as soaps, detergents, shampoos and conditioners and others are allowed to build up on the growing accumulation. Eventually the clumps of accumulated matter prevent water from flushing out quickly or may even completely seal the drain hole. If water builds up quickly in your sink or tub when it should flow smoothly out of your drainpipe, you may already have a plumbing blockage on your hands.
So how can you unclog these drainage?.
You can do a number of things to unclog your bathtub or bathroom sink drain. Whether you are working with a sink or a bathtub drain pipe, the first step to take is to remove the plug. With a bathroom sink this can be as easy as pulling it right out or as complicated a problem as looking under the sink and removing the nut that holds it in place. With your bath tub, you can either unscrew the plug right at the drainpipe or removing the overflow plate to remove the assembly.
You might be able to see the reason for the blockage after you have successfully taken the stopper out. Whilst messy, it is nothing, but a mound of hair and fragments around the components of the bathroom drain. Try to pull it out, as much as you can. If it is difficult to reach the area where the blockage is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. Removing the hair, detergent residues and the rest of the material will surely solve your problem.
However, there is a chance that you will not be able to reach the blockage with the wire so you will have to try something else. A very useful tool is a drain pipe plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. Begin by covering the overflow drainpipe with a wet towel so as to create a stronger suction from the plunger. Next, place the plunger directly over the drain pipe opening and methodically pulse the plunger up and down several times. When you let go of the plunger, any excess water should flow out right away if you have dislodged the blockage.
However, if this method also fails to have any affect you might have to use some sort of chemical cleaner. This method should only be used as a last resort because the chemicals used are dangerous and can be harmful to your bathroom fixtures.
